Back around the middle of November, The Weathering Shop was contacted by ExactRail about the possiblity of weathering a few ExactRail freight cars that could in turn be auctioned off with the proceeds going to a charity of ExactRail's choice. ExactRail has an existing partnership with the Amherst Railway Society and they have in the past undertaken charitable efforts to benefit The Baystate Children's Hospital located in Springfield, MA.

The Baystate Children's Hospital is a non-profit organization that provides advanced medical care to infants, children and adolescents in an environment that focuses exclusively on the needs of children and families.

Of course we accepted the offer. Gary, Jered and myself recieved the models around the last week of November and went to work. This was anything but a simple task. We were charged with doing work to our personal standards and doing it in less than three weeks.

The outcome on our end is what you will see in a few short moments. A fourth Weathering Shop member, Perry Lambert donated a car of his own when he found out about the charitable aspect of this project. The cars themselves are excellent examples of what The Weathering Shop is capable of. Each one conveys a different look but each model realistically captures the feel of an actual frieght car.

These freight cars will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to The Baystate Children's Hospital. The auction will run on Ebay from January 30th to February 7th, 2011. The Weathering Shop will post links  to each of the auctions. They will also be searchable under the heading 'ExactRail Charity Auction'. These cars will also be at the ExactRail display at the Amherst Railway Society's Railroad Hobby Show in Springfield, MA on January 29th and 30th.

The Weathering Shop is sincerely honored to have been chosen by ExactRail as a partner in this wonderful cause. In a few short weeks it will be your turn, as the viewership of The Weathering Shop, to turn out for a good cause. We hope you will.
